Exhibition Dates: August 14th – September 11th, 2010

Opening Reception: Saturday, August 14th from 5-8 pm

Two local artists, both inspired by the beauty of the late summer season.

Gitta Brewster moved to Northern California from Germany in 1986. She was and continues to be impressed by the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables produced here. Her love of the locally grown produce, her own garden, and drawing and painting has inspired her. “Quite naturally, the crops I harvested or brought home from local markets wound up on a table in my art space.” Inspired by the color and shape of the produce she paints, Gitta has also focused on fruit from tropical places, as well as, flowers. “I do not attempt to copy nature…Neither do I attempt perfection. It is the slight irregularity, the slight imperfection, like the little speckles on the skin of a pear or asymmetry of a person’s face that makes me want to take a second look. I hope to achieve that kind of imperfection in my artwork.” Gitta is a strong supporter of the Chico art community. She is an active member in both the Chico Art Center and the Chico Visual Arts Alliance.

David Smallhouse has begun his forth decade as a glassblower with the same enthusiasm and excitement as when he was first introduced to the art at Orient & Flume. In 2001, he opened a Chico studio in his home, Smallhouse Art Glass. In his own studio with a new palette of color and an array of new shapes and designs, he has continued with technical excellence and fresh creativity. His work encompasses vibrant colors and strong organic shapes. His art glass is shown in fine galleries internationally, with private collections world wide and in the Corning Museum of Glass. David describes his art as “an eclectic blend of elements… everything I have seen and liked in life”.

Join us, as we celebrate art expressive of the beauty we Californians are so lucky to live amid on Saturday, August 14th from 5-8. There will be an artistic demonstration and live music as well as refreshments.
