CHICO -- "Wind and Wood," a multi-media exhibit featuring works by four California artists, opens Tuesday at The Artistry.

An opening reception, attended by all the featured artists, will be held at 5-8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the gallery, 830 Broadway.

The reception is free and open to the public. Artistry house artist and ceramicist Kristy Edmonds-Kreb will be also be on hand demonstrating her ceramic techniques.

"Kristy is one of our local up-and-coming artists. Her work features fine ornamentation and is really unique. I don't think anyone else does work like this," said Celina Paul, gallery manager and co-owner.

"Wind and Wood" is an exhibit that brings together diverse but complementary artists whose two-dimensional and three-dimensional art pieces are a reflection of nature or are created from nature.

Mary Anderson, of Blue Lake, captures the California coast in her oil and watercolor paintings.

"Mary's work is influenced by the coastal wilderness and has an energetic, natural wind-swept feeling that evokes the special experience of the world at the ocean," Paul said.

For the first time, local portrait photographer Govinda Jaya will be showing her nature photography in this exhibit at The Artistry.

Paul describes the composition of these never-before-seen photographs as having "quiet, contemplative and symmetrical organization."

"They are breathtaking," she said.

Local woodworkers Ken McCall and Harry Koenig have added their furniture, sculpture, jewelry, bowls and other creations to this exhibit.

McCall produces unusual works using reclaimed wood. Koenig is a wood carver who produces all his work by hand, never using a wood turner.

"Together these artists make up the 'Wind and Wood' exhibit. We put these four together because the energy of their art works well together. They compliment one another," Paul said. "I think people will really appreciate this exhibit, and our opening receptions are always energetic and a lot of fun because they give people the opportunity to talk with the artists and ask them questions."

The Artistry, which opened in October 2009, is located in front of All Fired Up! Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
